Ava.

Rawson’s expression made me fidget, my palms sweating. His heated gaze travelled down over my super sensitive breasts, making my nipples harden under his scrutiny. My reaction to him was almost painful as that sensitive skin rubbed on my bra. His deep spicy scent, the one that I loved just because it was uniquely his, strengthened, and I bit back a moan.

Words got stuck in my throat as he leant forward and placed a very large, very calloused hand against the slight swell of my abdomen. Yeah, he wasn’t avoiding me now. In fact, this was such an about-turn in his behaviour I didn’t know what to do with it. I looked down, enjoying the firmness of his touch. It made me feel…safe… I swallowed hard…protected.

The possession in that move, coupled with a deep rumble that vibrated my very bones, made me feel all kinds of bemused. I had no idea what the hell was going on with him. Gods, he’d even said please after issuing his order to sit down. He never asked me to do anything, only ever demanded.

My breath caught in my throat as his gaze ate me up. Slowly, he traced his attention lower to the juncture of my legs where I couldn't deny I was tingling and slick from the weight of his intense glare. He slid his attention back up to his splayed fingers. They gripped me tighter, making my heart flip. It was a proprietary gesture. The air thickened as his intense gaze lingered over the swell of my breasts, before he raised it slowly over the curve of my shoulder and neck until he was once again looking at my face.

By the time our eyes met, I was a mess, so turned on, I was almost panting. The smooth leather on the chair arms creaked as I gripped it, fighting the urge to grab the thin fleece that hugged the contours of his chest and yank him to me for a taste of his lips. I wanted to repeat what had happened in the Gambit so badly I could taste it.

I had no idea what had triggered this sudden change in him. He’d not been within six feet of me since the Black Orchid.

My wolf whined as the power of Rawson’s bear pushed against us. I tried to reassure her, only I couldn’t. The ownership I felt at Rawson’s grip on my belly was confusing the hell out of me, along with ridiculous feelings of hope, ones that I thrust aside, fearful that, as usual, I was reading more into this than there was. I opened my mouth, needing to know what this was about, but before I could speak his touch fell away and he leaned back, folding his arms over his big chest. He shifted his hips slightly, and I wondered if he was as turned on as I was. The deep spiciness of his scent surrounded me, so it was safe to say he was.
