“This is your goddamn fault!” Chase yelled at Liam and Adrian.

Denise lay down on the couch, an ice pack on her face.

“Good grief, Chase. Calm down,” David said as he put his hand on Chase.

Probably a bad idea.

Chase spun around and shoved his brother back.

“What the hell, dude? I’ve never seen you like this,” David said, grabbing him by the head and meeting his gaze.

“How the fuck do you expect me to act? She got punched in the face, and the damn relic that’s been making her nuts is gone. Her face is broken. I’m not going to calm down.”

“It’s my nose,” Denise said, her voice thick and nasal. “Besides, you told me it’s not that bad.”

“We will find her. Eve Harrison cannot stay gone for very long,” Adrian said.

“And who’s to say she’s going to bring back the relic? You said yourself she doesn’t work for you.”

Enraged was hardly the word to describe the fire in Chase. Something really fucked up was going on with this whole mess. The Templars didn’t even seem to care the goddamn sheldevak had taken off with the relic. Wasn’t that what they were trying to avoid in this whole mess?

He didn’t know if the thing was still connected to Denise--no one did. She hadn’t said anything about the buzzing since they left the amusement park, but that didn’t mean anything. Everyone was trying to regain their balance when they’d come back to the Drigan house. She could double over in pain from it at any moment like she had before.

Fuck.

He hated this.

Chase paced around his living room. Marge was there, coffee mug in her hands, watching him with that “mom look.” The one which always felt so judgmental--she’d normally saved that for her other boys.

He always thought his twin Caleb was crazy when he’d comment on it because he’d never experienced it.

Guess it was Chase’s turn.

The sun was just beginning to rise outside, making the living room glow a funny orange color. It sort of reminded Chase of a fire’s glow. Maybe Mother Nature was trying to soothe him?

David remained awake, though the pack Alpha might only have stayed awake to make sure Chase didn’t rip a Templar’s head off. Kelsey though, had already gone to bed.

David met Chase’s gaze. “Chase. You need to take a minute.”

Chase stopped and glared at his brother. “I don’t need a minute. I need this damn situation resolved.”

“Whether you believe it or not, we are working on it,” Adrian said.

Chase rolled his eyes. He hadn’t felt like this in a very long time. If ever. He was always the calm one.

And look at him now.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

“When will you have some leads?” David asked, the calm one in the moment.

“Forty-eight hours,” Liam replied.

“And until then?”

“Until then, you keep her safe,” Liam said, gesturing to Denise. “We may need her yet.”

“Fuck,” Chase muttered. This was not what he wanted to hear. How long was he going to have to be in this holding pattern? He couldn’t just leave
