It’s hard to believe I’ve only been working at the club for a year. That’s all I can think about as I dress. A year later, and I’ve somehow gone from cleaning the rooms to using them.

So why don’t I feel any shame?

Maybe I should, but nothing penetrates the hurt that resonates through me as I wrap my arms around my chest to keep myself covered in such a skimpy outfit. The building is mostly empty right now, thank the gods, so I don’t have to face the other girls as I slip down to the room where I’ve left real clothes.

They teased me enough when I finally swallowed my pride to go up for auction two nights ago. And now, even after Loer deposits what is left of me in twelve days, the club will still own me.

“Jenna!”

Gods no.

I push open the door to the small dressing area they’ve allowed us and find two other girls in here. I keep my head down as I try not to let the shame burn through me. It’s easy to feel one way with Loer, but left behind and alone the next morning, I can’t quite bury the emotion.

“You were here all night?”

Do they not have homes to go to? The last thing I want is to sit around and chat about my evening when I want nothing more than to forget.

Forget how I’ve been used and tossed aside.

“On my way out,” is the only response I give them as I tighten the jacket around my waist and slip into a loose pair of pants.

As fast as I can manage, I’m out of the establishment, leaving it behind. But I know that I’m not really. I know that I am tied to this place, that I will be back, night after night, for the rest of my life because of my desperation.

And what’s worse?

Every time I’m in there all I'm able to think about is Loer.

What he does to me, what I want him to do to me…

And by then, he’ll have forgotten me entirely.
