Chapter 13. A Council of War.
Now every weaving was showing that a final battle must take place between the forces of Dark and the light, as also the two armies come together, on Mancetter Hill. As to which side will win Myriddin was still not clear.
Boudicca,
It was at the next war council that Boudicca knew she still had an important task, and that was to keep up the momentum of their attacks and prevent the chieftainâs from thinking the war was won, and they could all go home to hump their wives and return to their Holds.
Now they had returned to Scole, the chieftains were indeed intent on celebrating the defeat of the Ninth Legion, and were gathered in the glade before a roaring fire where an Oxen was slowly roasting on a great spit and the Ale and mead, were flowing freely. Soon they would be too drunk to care about tomorrow, and were intent on holding a great celebration feast. But Boudicca was waiting for her moment, and Now that they were mellow enough, she nodded to Brius that it was time to get them to listen to her new orders. Although she had to try to make it seem it was their idea. Brius, the newly chosen War chieftain, stood to bang the staff to demand attention.
âIf you have had enough ale, Theroux of Toffees, I ask you to stop fondling the breast of that wench and listen to me. For I stand to praise the dead and the living who gave us these great victories. I will make a toast to them and the Boudiga who has led us at Camulos, and at the ravine.â
He raised his horn cup that was full of foaming ale, and to a man, they stood with him as his toast ran around the fire and was repeated time and time again.
âBoudiga, Boudiga the ever-victorious one!â But then Brius did an astonishing thing for he threw his cup into the flames.
âI will not drink any more ale this night. I also would wish to stay here another day and feast and celebrate with you. But on the morrow, I am ordered to take the Wasps to attack the Roman settlement at Verulamium, and find the Pox ridden Procurator Catus who was responsible for the scourging of my Queen. If you have finished stuffing your fat belly Ostiaus, I would ask you to come with me? What say you Theroux, or have you also had your fill of the Roman steel?â
Brius knew that for him to challenge the chieftainâs like this, was a risk, but now they had a victory most of them would want to go home and tend to the harvest, or cattle. Ostiaus however, had been primed, and he rose as if he was half drunk, his speech slurred so as not to give offence
âYou ask me if I want to kill more Romans, yes I do! And I bet my best horse that I can gut more roman stomachs that anyone here, especially that tub of lard, Theroux.
