Julz and my dad had just come back from the restaurant, Julz had a look on his face I couldn't quite place. I figured one of the staff members had worked his nerves that day, and he just wanted to go smoke a cigar and calm down. That is something he did whenever he felt too stressed out about something, and wasn't ready to discuss it just yet. I always gave him the space he needed until he was ready to talk about it. My dad went straight into his room and did not come out for the remainder of the night. That was strange for him, considering the fact that I had not seen him all day and normally he would try to talk to me about my day, whenever I was over. He had a worried look on his face. In my entire life, I have never seen him look worried about anything. This day, something was off with the both of them, I just didn't know what.

When Julz finally came back into the room where I was, he told me I should go ahead and head home and he would meet me there later that night. That was not abnormal for him to stay later with my father to make sure everything was handled properly, but there was something about the way he said it. I brushed it off, feeling as if I was exaggerating, because I was sleepy. Julz climbed in the bed with me around three something that morning. By that time I was too sleepy to address him and my father’s strange behavior from the previous day.

Detective Bennett sat there waiting for me to respond to his questions. I contemplated on whether or not I should reveal what I remembered the day before, then thought better of it. Talking to the police was something my family has always been against and considered a form of snitching in my lifestyle. I do want the people responsible for my fathers death served justice, but not the way the police did. This was something that needed to be handled in the streets.

"No I don't remember anything strange. My father was not the type of man to be caught up in a bunch of craziness. We both know he was a businessman, Detective."

"Indeed we do. I just want to know what would be the reason someone would want your father dead."

Hearing those words brought everything back to me again and the tears flowed freely down both sides of my cheeks. Flashbacks of the pictures he showed me the day he delivered the news about my father kept running through my mind. Detective Bennett left the other sofa and sat next to me, holding me.

"This can't be right. I need my father here with me. He is my everything." Loud sobs escaped my lips. I was not expecting my emotions to overcome me this way. I was really embarrassed and pulled away from him. He pulled me back close to him.
