Chapter 41

Frenchie rode in the back of Bo’s cab, staring out the window in deep thought. She was not thrilled about constantly having to change or tweak her plans, but being in the game as long as she had been, she knew how to adapt. Since arriving in L.A. she had made a few decisions that she wished she could do over, but for the most part she had made the right ones.

Frenchie was proud that she trusted Christopher Rogers’ advice and allowed his star broker, Adam Baden, to handle her investments. Every month after the party at Morgan Bradford Financial in Century City, Frenchie had been taking eighty percent of her money to Adam. He created an investment portfolio and managed her money as if it were his own.

“Bo, I need to stop in Century City. I need to handle some business before we do that other thing,” Frenchie announced.

“Okay. Century City, huh?”

“That’s right.”

“Where?”

“The same building where I crashed the party.”

Bo glanced at Frenchie in the rearview mirror and smiled. “They’ve become regular friends of yours, have they?”

“Mm-hm.” Frenchie stared out the window, her elbow propped up on the door frame, her chin rested between her thumb and forefinger. The wheels in her head were turning a mile a minute.

Frenchie had had pimps that dealt drugs, so she was not in unfamiliar territory totally. However, she knew that Willie was getting bored. He was not picking up the ways of a pimp as she had hoped. By now he should have recruited one or two more girls, which would raise the capital to finance his entrance into the drug game. As with everything else thus far, Frenchie would just have to finance it herself.

She closed her eyes and silently prayed. This was one of those decisions that she was hoping would not come back to bite her in the end.

Bo stopped the cab in front of the high-rise office building. He stretched his neck to peer out the front windshield and look at the huge letters that were suspended from the side of the building. “We’re here, Miss Frenchie.”

Frenchie did not move right away, or open her eyes until she had finished meditating. Bo waited silently. Finally, her eyes opened and Bo got out, opening the door.

She stood on the sidewalk, shortly staring up the side of the building. “I’ll only be inside a few minutes.”

“I’ll be waiting right here.”

Frenchie’s heels clacked loudly as she walked across the serpentine, tiled floor. The security guard acknowledged her with a nod of his head. She smiled and entered the elevator.

Adam Baden greeted Frenchie with a hug and a kiss on the cheek when she entered his spacious corner office.

“My, my, Frenchie, you’re looking great.”

“Thank you, Adam. You’re looking very handsome as well.”

“Life’s been good. I have no complaints.”

His smile was wide, stretching across his boyish face. He took a seat behind his desk, which contained several computer screens. He tapped on the keyboard, pulling up Frenchie’s file.

“What are we doing today, Frenchie?”

She reached in her purse and handed Adam an envelope thick with cash.
