A green smoothie a day keeps the doctor away. We are asked all the time about how to get nutrition right on a vegan diet. Our top tip, as well as popping a multivitamin every day, is to start your morning with a big smoothie, packed with greens and healthy nutrients.
Rhonda Patrick (a PhD human physiologist) combines apple, avocado, banana, blueberries, carrots, chard, kale, flaxseeds, spinach and tomatoes to create a multivitamin super drink packed with thiamine, folate, magnesium, manganese, potassium and copper, and is a good source of dietary fibre and vitamins A, C and K. We love it so much that we made our own version! This smoothie lights you up like a Christmas tree.
Put 50g kale, 50g spinach, 50g chard, 8 blueberries and 50ml water into a liquidiser and whizz for 1–2 minutes until you have a smooth paste. Scoop the flesh of ½ avocado into the liquidizer. Add ½ banana, ½ apple, 2 cherry tomatoes, 1 tbsp peanut butter and 200ml water. Blitz until you have a thick and creamy smoothie (if you prefer it a little thinner, add a bit more water). Drink and feel healthier all day long.
