Chapter 14

Boys in the Hood

Pebbles ran to the scene of the crime and saw it taped off with yellow tape. Police where all over and a there was an ambulance on the scene. She looked around with tears pouring down her cheeks and an ache in her heart. Spotting the blue BMW, she saw that it was also taped off. It had bullet holes and the glass was shattered all over the ground. She then spotted the blood puddles that had stained the street where she knew Chevette had once laid. Looking to the ambulance, Pebbles rushed towards it, but was stopped by an officer.

“Look, ma’am, this is a crime scene. You can’t come past this tape,” he warned.

“Please, officer, that is my brother and I need to be with him. I am all he has,” she said as she began to cry into her hands. The officer looked at Pebbles and placed his hand on her shoulder, “I’m sorry, but there is nothing you can do but pray for him. The paramedics are working on him. If they can get him stable enough where they can rush him to a nearby hospital, he might have a better chance. But it’s not looking good. He was shot twice, once in the chest and the other in his abdomen,” the officer reported.

Pebbles felt her legs about to give from underneath her. She fell to her knees and cried out. “This is all my fault,” she kept repeating.

Back inside the club, Money and Raven weren’t aware of what was going on a couple blocks from the club. They were enjoying their night out and partying with Whiz Khalifa. For his last set, he got D Lugar from Young Farmers to come on stage. Money was determined to introduce herself and let him know she was his number one fan before they left. Wade came back to join the ladies and told them that he had to leave, but enjoy everything on them. Raven and Money were impressed and they did just that, ordering drinks, and food. The club was finally winding down and the girls were buzzed.

TJ and Bruce, who disappeared in the crowd all night, were joking about how many numbers they had gotten apiece when they spotted Meeko.

“Hey, nephews, I didn’t know y’all came out to party with me. Y’all didn’t come up to the office.”

“Yea, we was bagging the ladies.” They both laughed, dapping each other up.

“Well y’all not drunk are ya? I can’t be having y’all riding like that, and end up getting pulled over. I can see the police all over shit outside now, so be careful out there, and stop being strangers. I know how the situation is with my nephew, but y’all don’t have to stay away because of it.”

TJ spoke up. “Rock blames us for you turning your back on him, and us not remaining his true friends back then.”

Meeko just shook his head. “I never turned my back on him, nor will I ever.
