Cade’s truck sputtered and coughed for a minute, not wanting to go into town any more than Cade did. He gave her a little more gas, and she started up again. Cade didn’t like the sounds the truck was making and made a mental note to take her to the garage and have her checked out soon.

With a pat to the truck’s dash for luck, Cade pulled away from the pumps at the gas station and into an empty parking spot. He opened his soft drink and took a large swallow. He checked to make sure the level was low enough. When he saw that it was, Cade dumped in a bag of peanuts. The soda fizzled and fuzzed. Cade took another gleeful drink. This time the sweet was paired with the salty bite of the peanuts.

“And now, we work.” Cade chuckled to himself and took another swallow before backing out of the parking spot and heading to Allison’s house. As he crunched on the peanuts, he planned how to deal with his client and her blatant attempts to get him into bed. He really wasn’t in the mood to fend off more of her advances, and her “broken dryer” was the latest in a string of ploys to upgrade him from handyman to sex toy.

By the time Cade pulled into her driveway, he’d gotten his “work face” on and was ready to deal with her come-ons. He grabbed his tool belt and meandered his way up the sidewalk. After knocking on the door, Cade stepped back and listened. “Shit, I’m not ready!” He heard her exclaim. He had to chuckle at her antics, even if she didn’t think he could hear her. Wolf hearing had its benefits.

“Just a minute,” she called out, this time loud enough that human ears would pick up the words.

If Cade had his druthers, she would take more than a minute. She wasn’t the first customer to come on to him, and normally it wasn’t that big of a deal. A few years ago, he’d even taken a fella up on his offer of a blow job. Man, he’d really known what he was doing too. Cade had picked up a few tricks that day.

His problem with Allison was that she didn’t seem to take his hints that he wasn’t interested. With his mind reeling from everything going on with the pack and his hormones perking up at every stray thought of Rocky, Cade really didn’t want to deal with her.

A moment later, the door opened and Allison stood there, slightly out of breath and not wearing a whole heck of a lot. Her pink tank top was pulled dangerously low, exposing the mounds on her chest in an enticing display. And yeah, Cade thought they were nice to look at, and another time, maybe he would have been tempted. But not today.

“Hey, Cade.” She smiled and showed off her perfect white teeth and glossy pink lips.

“So your dryer’s not working?” Cade figured it was best to get right to the point.
