Sighing, I lean into my hands and rub them up and down my face. I'm tired. The daylight didn't afford much rest, so I have that going for me. Also, I was right in my assumptions. My people were not happy. All kinds of objections burst from their mouths, but I silenced them with the mention of Corporate. Still, I hope this plan is a good one. No one's heart was in it.

A small tap at my door startles me from my dejected thoughts. I take a moment to send my senses free and sigh to find that it's only my secretary. "Come."

Edira slips in. "Sir, everyone else is gone. Do you need anything?"

"No. Is your work done?"

"Yes, sir. Minutes are entered and projections are sent to Verra to authorize for Corporate."

I lean back and look at the ceiling, wondering how the woman will take our plans and projected sales reports. It was extremely difficult to determine who best to push this to, the ideal buyer, when we don't have any idea of what side effects to watch for. The decision had to be made based on income alone, then risk had to be considered. Poison the wrong people, and we can be in the worst place in terms of future business.

"I will be leaving shortly," I say. "Feel free to turn off all but the main hall light and go about your evening."

"You're sure, sir?"

"Wouldn't have said it if I wasn't."

The tone of annoyance in my voice causes her to tense. "Yes, sir. Have a good day."

I don't return the sentiment, choosing to watch her walk away while avoiding the way her tight ass moves when she walks. Packing up, I hear my laptop make a noise. My email icon has a one next to it that wasn't there before. I open it and grunt my frustration at another anonymous source.

They're more ruthless than even you know. Be wary.
