7.15.4 IBM WAY OF LOOKING AT IOT DEVICE INDEPENDENCE (BRODY AND PURESWARAN, 2014)

IBM foresees that in future, solutions with features like drastically low cost, privacy best or autonomous solutions are going to be favorites, and these solutions are feasible only with IoT as driver. The business models for the future must adapt a highly efficient digital economy and deliver collaborative value with new disruptive products. The pyramid of digital success as suggested by IBM is shown in Figure 7.9a. Sooner, these design principles will transform the connectivity of devices as in Figure 7.9b. Since 2005, the design of IoT networks was ruled by closed-centralized model. Now the shift is toward open-centralized cloud model. By 2025, the IoT network design will only be open-access and distributed cloud model.
