Chapter Seven

They lay twined in each other’s limbs for a long time after. Tyler’s breathing slowed and the sweat dried on his skin. He shivered but still didn’t want to move away. He still couldn’t entirely explain to himself what he was feeling.

It should be over. The itch should be scratched.

But he wanted to do it all over again…and now. He raised his head as his cock pulsed against Lucien’s leg.

Lucien was unsmiling. “Tyler…I can’t.”

Tyler lowered his head back to the soft pillow. He trailed his fingers lazily over Lucien’s skin, ignoring the uncertainty prickling up his spine.

“So what happens now?”

“I should feed,” Lucien said in a low voice, “and rest. Wait for the last of that drug to leave my system.” He raised his eyes. “You should stay here with me, until my strength returns. I don’t think it’s safe for you to leave until it does.”

Tyler grunted and rested his head back against his arm. “I’m not afraid of Damon.”

Lucien closed his eyes. “So rash, Tyler. So reckless.”

“If I weren’t, I never would have met you.”

“True.”

“So we lay low here for a bit. Then what?” Lucien didn’t answer. The look on his face made a knot form in Tyler’s stomach. Silence bloomed between them. Tyler shifted with the need to say something. He opened his mouth but all that came out was, “How will you, you know…eat?”

“There will be flasks in the fridge. Though, nothing for you, I’m afraid.”

“I’ll be fine,” he said, propping his head up on his hand. Lucien gazed up at him, a ghost of curiosity in his eyes.

“So, now we’ve done it twice… Will you, you know…tell me more?”

Lucien frowned, confusion clouding his eyes. “Tell you what?”

“I dunno.” Tyler shrugged. “Where you’re from? Your real name? Something about your family? Anything.”

Lucien closed his eyes for a moment. When he opened them again they were remote and distant. “I don’t remember any of those things.”

Tyler stared at him. “What?”

Lucien sighed and extricated himself from Tyler’s legs and climbed out of the cell. “Those things belong to my human life. That has been dead and buried for centuries.”

Tyler sat up, frowning. “You don’t remember anything?”

He shook his head. “That’s not who I am anymore.”

“I don’t get it,” Tyler said, rubbing his head. “How can your real name and where you come from not matter to you?”

“It’s not a case of mattering. It just no longer exists,” Lucien said, dressing without looking at him. “I am who my maker made me.”

Tyler blinked. “Your maker?”

Lucien buttoned his shirt slowly. “The one that turned me, made me like her.”

“Her?” Lucien looked at him. Tyler fidgeted and looked away. “Okay, so she must know who you were and where you came from?”

“She may have,” Lucien said, pulling on his jumper. He moved to a small fridge under a counter and opened it. “I don’t remember her ever telling me. And I didn’t ask. It wasn’t important.”

“How is it not important?” Tyler said, climbing out of the cell and pulling on his underwear.
