Chapter 9

It wasn’t that Willow didn’t want to make out with Evan, or heck, go all the way just to shut up her demanding body. It just seemed like such a dire step and one of which she’d never heard. Now she’d read the spell from a credible source and it may be irrefutable. Before moving forward though, she had one item to clear up.

Night had descended, and Willow’s smart lights flicked on in her living area, casting shadows on the abandoned witch’s circle, glittering on the salt crystals like diamonds.

Willow snuggled into Evan’s side, hiding her face against his chest. His T-shirt was well worn and soft. He wrapped his arm around her and pulled her even closer.

“It was you during Summer Solstice,” she whispered.

“The kiss?” Laughter laced his voice.

“You know I was drunk off my ass. I thought you were—”

“Someone else? Yeah, I already figured that out.”

“Why didn’t you say anything?” Finally, she lifted her head to peer into his face. His pale tiredness had been replaced by an anticipatory blush.

“You didn’t say anything either.”

“Because I didn’t know until I pieced it all together the next morning. By then, I was mortified.”

“Hoping I’d forgotten? Or was too smashed myself?”

“Yeah. Something like that.”

“Does it matter now?”

“It does. Because it was the best kiss of my life.” She hung her head, picked at invisible lint on his T-shirt, unable to believe she’d just confessed a deep secret.

“Ditto. That kiss connected us. It’s never left my mind.” He squeezed her closer to him.

“That kiss and the fact that you didn’t take advantage of me at that time or later, has helped solidify my trust in you.”

“Well, hell. A kiss is all it took?” He chuckled. “I can do it again.”

She playfully pinched his arm. “I just wanted to get that on the table. I was having a bad night, didn’t care what warlock I was kissing. I just wanted something tangible to take home after seeing all that magic at the gathering. Alcohol got the better of my good judgement.”

“Doesn’t it always?” Evan sighed heavily. “Is it that bad not having your magic?”

“It’s fucking torture.”

“Then let me end your pain,” he whispered and kissed the top of her head, his breath ruffling her hair.

Her need for him grew, and his heat nearly set her on fire.

Evan rubbed his hand up and down her arm, leaving it tingling with a spray of sparks chasing his hands. Her head sagged onto his chest, and his free hand moved to her thigh, his touch intoxicating. She reached to unzip his jeans.

“Careful.” Evan sucked in a breath.

Trailing kisses up her neck and nibbling her earlobes, he cupped her right breast beneath her T-shirt, massaging, scorching.

Maybe she should’ve stopped. But her whole body took on an awareness she’d never believed possible. She shimmied out of her leggings and tossed them at the foot of the bed. Back in Evan’s arms, she brushed light kisses across his lips, his check, and down to his neck. He quivered against her, tipped her chin up and captured her mouth.
