Kippers, an acronym for “kids in parent’s pockets eroding retirement savings,” are not few and far between. They’re right down the block. In fact, many of your friends may fit this definition. (Relax, I didn’t say you. )

Despite common belief, kippers are not necessarily unmotivated, and many have full-time jobs. Perhaps they just recognize a good thing and are holding on with all their might, knowing that mommy would never kick her favorite baby out, no matter how much he ate or how many times he came home after curfew.

Kipper International

While American parents might spend their days at work plotting arranged marriages to get rid of their kipper, in most countries this is the norm. Take Italian men, who usually live at home well into their thirties. In fact, the Italian mommoni gave us our English term “mama’s boy.”

HOW TO KNOW IF YOU’RE DATING A KIPPER

• He always wants to hook up at your place.

• He tells you that the reason he can afford to buy rounds at the bar is because his “roommates” pay most of the rent.

• On his behalf, his mom proposed to you.

• All of his clothes are perfectly ironed.

• He has thumb twitch from playing too many video games.
