CHAPTER 12

UNMASKING IDOLATRY

Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

Romans 11:3–5, KJV

BAAL is called the “god with a thousand faces,” and trying to pull back the veil of deception and discover the truth about this principality is a lot like opening an unending series of nesting boxes. Each time you open one, a new one appears. However, for clarification purposes, the primary thing you need to understand about Baal is that he is assigned to hold back the promises of God.

His strategy can be traced all the way back to the first recorded relationship between God and man in the Garden of Eden. God’s promise to man was a life in the lap of luxury in the “Garden of God.” God walked and talked with Adam in the cool of the day and met all his needs in an earthly paradise. He gave Adam dominion over the earth and everything in it. It was a sweet deal, and the only stipulation was that Adam not eat the fruit of one particular tree.

We all know the story of satan’s interference. What we haven’t realized, though, is that there was a two-pronged attack against man. The first assignment was to stop the promises of God, something that could be accomplished only through sin and disobedience. Satan’s second goal was more subtle. While it’s true that the devil doesn’t want men and women to enter eternity in heaven, the real issue in the Garden of Eden was that he wanted control of the earth and its wealth.

Those two things are still his ultimate goals today—to stop the promises of God and to control the earth and its wealth. Baal is the principality in charge of those assignments.

THE LORD OF WEALTH

Baal-hamon, one of Baal’s names, means “the lord of wealth or abundance.” Chuck Pierce believes, and I agree, that this is the principality warring against the great transfer of wealth to the Church. You must war against this spirit to see your inheritance released. Claim Jeremiah 51:44. (The word Bel in this scripture refers to “Baal.”)

And I will punish and execute judgment upon Bel [the god] in Babylon and take out of his mouth what he has swallowed up [the sacred vessels and the people of Judah and elsewhere who were taken captive]. The nations will not flow any more to him. Yes, the wall of Babylon has fallen! (AMPC)

“Yes, Apostle John,” you might say, “but I’ve never worshiped Baal.”

While we never meant to worship Baal, you’ll see that idolatry is being unmasked in this nation, and we, as Christians, are the hands and feet of Jesus on the earth who are called to deal with it.
