Gentleness

We’ve already talked about the importance of developing a gentle spirit in 1 Peter 3, but one concept that is related to the Greek word here is worth discussing: courtesy. Aside from avoiding coming across abrasively, another aspect of gentleness is being polite and courteous to those around us. It can be hard to be gentle to those that are abrasive, rude, or inconsiderate. We tend to think that our abrasiveness will solve their own. Instead, we should resolve to be gentle in a harsh world, which will make us stand out from the crowd.
