A rack of different bows stood to the side, and Hess scanned their varying

shapes from compound to English longbow and recurve, with designs she

recognized as curved bamboo bows of Chinese design, among many others.

The pack fell back and let their Alpha take the lead, leaving Hess to feel

exposed as he left her side and lifted a small black compound bow from one

of the racks.

He turned to her as she crossed her arms, cocking a hip, and clucked her

tongue.

“Dear Ancestors,” she heard Henry pray out loud and chose to ignore him

as she stepped around Rory.

The bows were all in excellent health, their lines tight and wood

conditioned. She lifted a bamboo bow, its long arms curving beautifully

before her, and drew it to full length. Rory laughed behind her, and she

moved on as heat reached her ears. A gently sloped recurve bow hung next to

a lightly stained longbow, and she lifted it from the rack. It was a modern
