Getting there: From Twisp drive south on State Route 153 about 15 miles to the junction with North Fork Gold Creek Road (County Road 1029) and turn right (west). Drive about 5 miles, staying right at the road junction near the forest boundary, where the road becomes Forest Road 4340. At 5.5 miles, turn left onto FR 4340-200, a narrow dirt road leading off to the northwest. Drive to the end of the road and park at the trailhead.
You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy Foggy Dew. Sure, “Foggy Dew” may be one of the best-known fighting songs of the Irish (the tune was penned by Father P. O’Neill in tribute to the men who fought and died in the Easter Uprising of 1916 in Dublin), but Foggy Dew Trail is a tribute to peace and serenity. This quiet forest trail scrambles over rocks and through meadows alongside the tumbling waters of Foggy Dew Creek before turning and ascending into the bright green meadows surrounding Sunrise Lake. Adding to the quiet nature of this route is the fact that, unlike some other more popular trails in the area, the Foggy Dew Trail is off-limits to motorcycles.
The creek valley may have been named not for the acclaimed Irish song but for the morning mist that rises off the chilled waters of the creek in late summer.
