CHAPTER TEN

Pearl

Okay. That wasn’t what I had expected, thought Pearl as she woke to the gentle rocking of the yacht. She had been set for a night of passion and sex, but all they had done was talk and exchange histories. She tried to smother the stupid grin she had on her face, but she couldn’t. He was so much more than she thought he would be. And her reactions to him were so much more than she thought they should have been. She liked him, more than she was willing to admit. That scared the hell out of her. She didn’t want to fall for it. She knew what happened to girls who fell for lines like that. They ended up hurt and thrown away when the novelty wore off. Pretty Woman had a lot to answer for!

She heard a knock on the door.

“Come in,” she answered as she looked at her mobile phone, trying to see what time it was and was shocked to see it was a little after 10:00 a.m.

“Sorry to disturb you, Miss Pearl…”

“Pearl! Please, Julie. Just Pearl, plain and simple.”

Julie eyed her, nodding her acceptance, “Mr. Santorina asked me to inform you that he would be busy today and that you were to enjoy yourself however you choose.” Julie headed towards the windows, opening the blinds as she went past, letting in the golden sunlight of the Western Med.

“We will be stopping at the Balearic Isle of Formentera to refuel, and if you are up and dressed, you can watch the crew dock from upstairs in the pilothouse.”

That caught Pearl’s interest. She scooted across the bed and made for the bathroom, barely able to contain her excitement.

“Shall I lay out something for you?” Julie asked from the bedroom, “Or would you prefer to choose?”

“Mmmmm… one sec,” Pearl said. “I'm coming.”

Pearl looked in the bedroom but couldn’t find Julie, “Where….?”

“In here.”

“Wow… just …” Pearl stopped, stunned at the rows of dresses that hung in the open wardrobe. She went over and licked her lip, apprehension gnawed at her stomach, and she bit her lower lip. As she turned to look at Julie, she saw the equally bulging rows of shoes artistically arranged on the shelves.

“This is too much,” she moaned, “entirely too much.”

Julie walked over to her and rubbed her arm, “Miss Pearl …”

Pearl looked at her seriously, raising her eyebrow as if to warn her.

“Sorry, Pearl. He has never done this for any woman, and I have been with this family for over ten years.” She reassured her. “He has never made this much effort. Ever!” Julie held her by both arms, looking at Pearl to get her attention, trying to communicate how serious this situation was.

“Okay, Julie. Way to go to make me feel comfortable.” Pearl replied, deadpan.

Julie laughed, “Play dress up. Enjoy the moment. Don’t overthink anything.” She moved away from Pearl opening a drawer filled with accessories, “Come on. Pick something to wear and let me get your breakfast… or more likely lunch.
