Brandy

I had been driving around in circles for hours. It was nearly midnight, and I finally decided to just go to my brother G-man’ house. I didn’t have anyone else to turn to. All I wanted to do was forget Bubba and the bum bitch he had staying in that apartment. I could have gone to stay with my girl, Precious, but I knew that Bubba would stop by there, and that he and Precious would get into an argument. I didn’t feel like dealing with their nonsense, so my brother was the best choice.

I started to drive toward my brother’s house. There weren’t many cars on the road, which was just perfect for me. I passed gas station after gas station, but very few cars, before I finally made it to my brother’s neighborhood. It was a very nice middle-class neighborhood. Small brick houses lined the streets. My brother got his, for a steal, when the owner let it go into foreclosure. People around here minded their own business, and I would have nothing to worry about; Bubba didn’t know where G-man had moved to.

I pulled my car in behind his black Mercedes and got out. I walked up his long driveway. Before I could ring his doorbell, I got sick to my stomach and threw up into his bushes. I stayed bent over for five minutes, letting out everything that was in my stomach. I wiped my mouth off on my arm and finally rang his doorbell. I saw his bedroom light cut on and his curtain move, and then the same thing happened in the living room. He opened the door in his boxers, with no shirt on.

“If you’re coming here this late, I know something must be wrong. Come on in,” he said.

I followed behind him into his house. He had redecorated since the last time I had been there. The living room was painted blue and had a big mirror in a black frame. A big, flat-screen TV was hung up on the other wall, and he had a picture of a big, golden panther hanging on another wall. A plush black sectional filled the room up. I threw my keys down on his table and sat down on the chair. He sat down beside me.

“So what’s going on? And don’t lie to me either,” he said with narrowed eyes.

I immediately started to cry. How could I tell my brother that my whole world was falling apart? That the guy who I planned on building my family with, had thrown it all away on a whim? He wrapped his arms around me and just let me get out the pain that I was feeling. I cried for ten minutes before I was finally able to speak. “Bubba, Bubba cheated on me and I’m pregnant. Today—well yesterday, now—was supposed to be one of the greatest moments in our relationship, and he ruined it! I hate him so much.”

He leaned me back and looked into my eyes.

“He did what? And you’re what?” he asked

“He cheated, and I’m pregnant.
