Chapter Twelve

London

When I pulled up in my driveway I noticed a car that I never seen before parked on the side of my house. I didn’t know who the hell could be sitting in an Ashton Martin. Shit, I didn’t even know anybody in VA that owned an Ashton Martin. I was glad that I had started keeping my gun on me ever since Elijah told me about his encounter with Diego. Luckily Elijah’s mom hadn’t dropped Ariana off yet. It was Wednesday, so they were at Bible study. I loved the fact that she kept my baby in church.

As soon as I got out of my car, Ashton Martin’s driver’s door opened, and the person who got out had to be a driver. He was an older white man dressed in all black with that dumb-ass chauffeur’s hat on his head. He walked around the car and opened the back door. My face dropped when Diego stepped out of the car.

What the fuck is he doing here?

I looked around and noticed that no one else was on the block, and I got nervous.

“Hola, London. How are you today?” he said as he approached me.

“I’m fine. I’m just surprised to see you here. Elijah isn’t home.”

“Well, I’m not looking for Elijah. I’m looking for you.”

“What is it that you’re looking for me about? What could I possibly do for you?”

“Why don’t we go inside and talk?”

“Nah, that’s not a good idea. I’m not comfortable with having another man in my house while my fiancé isn’t home.”

“Let’s sit inside of my car then.”

“Diego, whatever you have to say, you can say it to me right here. You’re not going inside my house, and I’m not about to sit in your car.”

“Okay, have it your way. Elijah and I had a deal, and now he isn’t returning my calls. He needs to know that his life depends on this. If you want to save your daughter’s father’s life, you need to listen to me and listen good. I have a plan that can keep my money coming in without Elijah having to do it. It’ll be less of a risk for you. All you have to do is sell my special line of medication. That is your field of expertise, si?”

“I’m not doing anything illegal, so you can kill that.”

“Would you rather me kill Elijah?”

Tears filled my eyes from anger about the situation that we were in. “I can’t believe that you could be so cold-hearted toward someone that you claimed to love like a son. Is money so important to you that you would kill your best friend’s child all because he wants a better life for himself? Is this is what money will make you stoop to?”

“Boo-hoo. I’m not here for the sob stories. I’m only giving you one chance. If you don’t give me the answer I want to hear right here and right now, then you can kiss your husband goodbye. His life will officially be on a countdown, and since we had this conversation, you’ll have to look over your shoulder too.
