Little Muff healing nicely and growing new feathers.

The final result: Little Muff is a beautiful Easter Egger chicken once again.

Note

If it’s a deep wound that needs stitches, it’s best to find a veterinarian who can handle the job. Also, if the wound becomes infected, a veterinarian can administer antibiotics.

Returning the bird to the flock is a judgment call. Chickens are attracted to the sight and smell of blood. They will peck a wound and injure the bird further. If the wound is small and in a hidden place, such as under a wing, then the bird can usually be returned to the flock. Also if the injury is securely wrapped and the bird is otherwise healthy, it may be able to roam with its flock mates. However, if the injury and trauma has been severe or it’s difficult to hide from the flock, then it’s best to keep the bird isolated until it has fully recovered.
