I felt much better after I had a sit-down with Mrs. Ganan Tuesday morning. She apologized for overreacting and told me that her blowing up and judgment were two parts. She was scared about the threat my family could be for Lorenzo if we were together since I was so scared of them and Ryder had made a point to ramp up my security immediately.

Second, she hated liars. She knew and trusted Ryder and from where she sat, I was the liar trying to play both men. Now that she understood the crazy situation and that she thought Ryder was a twit for not double checking, she was very sorry.

I understood both points. I did assure her that my family wasn’t the mob and I’d done what I should. They weren’t murderers but the type to have me declared mentally unfit or stick me in rehab for a problem I didn’t have and steal all my money. Fine, that would worry any parent to be involved with a woman with family like that, but I had Ryder to protect me.

She also said she wasn’t washing my sheets anymore. It was her line of comfort. If her son was going to be one of the men who might be in my bed, she wasn’t involved in dealing with the bedding anymore.

Yeah, totally fair. I agreed and promised her the idea grossed me out as well. Honestly, I preferred she just not go in my room anymore. I saw the relief in her eyes at that like she wasn’t the only one who felt this was weird.

“I didn’t plan this,” I said quietly as I stared at the table. “But my feelings for him are—I’m not playing him. He sees me. I think I see him too. I don’t know what that means or where that will take us. I didn’t mean for Saturday to happen so fast and I am sorry—”

She chuckled as she reached over and patted my arm. “I understand. He is his father’s son. Believe me, I am the one woman who understands the suaveness of the Ganan men.”

I laughed so hard that I almost fell off the chair. Yeah, that was one thing we shared now for sure.

Oh dear.

Ryder figured out how to download all of the texts from the person who pretended to be me and emailed it over. I booted up the new laptop Lorenzo had helped me pick out and went into my email.

I was fuming not two minutes in.

“What is so wrong you look like you want the computer to die?” Mrs. Ganan asked me.

“Ryder sent me the texts of the person pretending to be me, and they’re so manipulative that I’m mad all over again. Yes, Ryder was a twit, but also so sweet because if I had said all of this, he’s one of the nicest men in the world. I’m so angry someone took advantage of him like this.”

She stopped in my view and waited until I looked up at her.
