Chapter Eleven

“It’s time to wake up, Shilo.” Huxley’s warm voice says in between kisses. I wrap myself around him, kissing him back. Ignoring the part about needing to wake up.

“Come on, we both know you would be upset if you were late for your first day. As well as Elvinyx would make you pay dearly.”

“Ugh, fine, I’m up.” Opening my eyes, I see that we are no longer in the gym, having at some point made our way back to the house and to Huxley’s room. The blackout curtains make it hard to tell how early it is.

“What time is it?” I ask, untangling myself from him, to stand up and stretch. I’m still wearing the dress from last night.

“It is six in the morning.”

My head whips in his direction in shock.

“Six?! Huxley, I’m well past late. I should have been at training an hour ago.”

“Ah, she must have forgotten to tell you the other day. The class you’ll be joining doesn’t start training until seven thirty today. You fall into the category of new recruits, which will also include those who are on the verge of being kicked out.”

I sit in relief until I really start to think about it.

“Oh, that mischievous little—" I take a deep breath to calm down.

“What’s wrong?” Huxley inquires, perplexed by my sudden mood change.

“Elvinyx didn’t forget, Hux. She’s a fox like her brother, and she purposefully chose not to tell me.”

“You must have been distracted again last time you two trained.” He chuckles at my expense.

“Only a little bit, but come on, everyone gets distracted sometimes. Not informing me of the time change and letting me wake up almost three hours early is a bit much. How is that supposed to help me stay focused anyway? If anything, I would have been more tired than everyone else, resulting in a lack of my full attention.” I grumble.

“You two have grown close over the weeks. She cares about you. Take it as another way of training. Most people don’t realize that sleep is a luxury in dangerous situations. There are times when you may only get two hours of sleep, but you still must do what is needed. You, of all people, with your life experience, should know this.”

“Doesn’t mean I have to like it. I’m going to go get ready.” I gripe and head for the door.

“Eat light this morning. You do not want a heavy stomach.”

I wave my hand over my shoulder in response, then start to close the door. At the last second, I decide to run back to Huxley. Quickly giving him a peck on the lips before I overthink it, then rush to my room.

Dressing in the attire I was instructed to wear today. Consisting of the white t-shirt, shorts, and running shoes. I pack my bag with a change of clothes, a notebook, and a pen for the classes I’m supposed to be taking. Leaving my boots tied to the side of my pack to make room for everything.
