Figure 6.11 Cables connecting an instrument to a Mix Channel in the Racks view

The Mix Channel device receives the audio signal from the instrument. The Mix Channel can process the audio signal and route it through the mixer, combining it with the other tracks in your song. The combined audio signal then passes through your audio interface to a listening device, such as your speakers or headphones. You can see and control the Mix Channel device as a channel strip in the Main Mixer view.

When you put all of these pieces together, you get a complete signal flow from the MIDI notes on the instrument track, to an audio signal generated by an instrument device, to a Mix Channel device and the main mixer, and then ultimately to sound that you can hear.
