Chapter 9

Marcy

I had promised Cortisa that I would see to it that her art gallery was a success and I intended to do just that. She had no idea that I checked into the Westin Hotel. It’s not as if I didn’t appreciate her allowing me to stay in her home, it’s just that I had brought someone from London for the trip; someone that could be detrimental to our business venture. So, after settling in the suite, I decided to call Cortisa to tell her that I would meet her at the gallery.

“Was there a problem with you staying here?” Cortisa said during the phone conversation.

“No ma’am,” I replied. “I didn’t come to Atlanta alone; I brought someone from London with me.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know,” Cortisa said, “I can’t wait for you to see the preparations that I made for the art gallery. This is going to make history in Atlanta.”

“I can hear the excitement in your voice,” I exclaimed.

“I am excited; should I have Daniel come and pick you up?”

“No thank you,” I replied. “I have a driver.”

“Well then,” Cortisa replied. “Call me when you get to the art gallery. I want you to be the first one to tour it.”

Apron arriving at Cortisa’s art gallery, I walked in and observed a vast collection of painting that were worth a million, and they were authentic.

“Do you have any idea how much these painting are worth?” I asked.

“I pray that you have a good security system because these painting have been appraised for a lot of money.”

I quickly found out that I underestimated Cortisa’s ability to open the gallery. The place was fabulous with a high-tech security system. The thought of whether Cortisa really needed my help came to mind; or was it all a business move to get me to sale her vintage art at a minimum wholesale price. Either way, we both profited substantially.

“So…what do you think?” Cortisa asked.

“I love it.” I replied. “You couldn’t have done better job. Are you going to need help?”

“Yes, I’m sure,” she responded. “We’re going to make a lot of money, so prepare for the grand opening tomorrow. I purchased forty cases of Dom Rominee Conti 1997, and we will be serving hors d’oeuvres while listening to classical music.

Daniel entered the gallery looking sharp as ever. His presence distracted me as he approached Cortisa and kissed her softly on her lips.

“Hi Marcy, how are you doing?” Daniel asked.

“Great,” I replied. “And how about you?”

“I’m doing well,” he responded.

Cortisa rolled her eyes at Daniel’s nonchalant manner before walking off.

“Wow,” I said. “Did I have anything to do with that?

“Nah, she’s upset about something that transpired. She will cool down by tomorrow.”

“Well, she did a great job with this gallery,” I said. “I’m overwhelmed.”

“I’m not,” said Daniel.

“And why would you say that?”

“Because that woman is a very business savvy woman,” Daniel said. “And there’s no limit to what she can do.”

“I’ve heard,” Marcy said. “She reminds me of someone that I know very well; but anyways…she could really use your support.
