Hygienic Interiors of the HairXpreso Salon
The price of a haircut at a Jawed Habib Hair & Beauty salon also varies with the location of the salon, whether it is located in Tier I, Tier II or Tier III city. Today, we are also present in small mofussil towns. Accordingly the price is finalized. The aim is to have as many customers as possible. However, the price variation does not mean that we are compromising on the quality of the service. It is the same everywhere. I am referring to the price of the haircut simply because it generates the highest amount of revenue in our organization, and it is also a primary service that a customer looks for when he/she visits a Jawed Habib Hair & Beauty salon. Prices of other hair and beauty services are consciously kept at par with the market standards so that common people can afford our services. Our aim is to give a good quality service at the most affordable price. And I can vouch that even in this approach, we can generate a healthy bottom line for the corporate (Jawed Habib Hair & Beauty Ltd) and the franchisees to grow. It all boils down to the fact how efficiently we are managing our financial and human resources. It has helped us to beat inflation because we have not changed the price of haircut for several years now.
Another interesting brand of ours is the Jawed Habib HairXpreso where we currently give a haircut at a price of 149. This is a unique model of a salon where the price has been kept so competitive that anyone can walk in. JH HairXpreso was launched in 2009. The average size of the salon is 100–150 square feet. These salons are located in high footfall zones. The aim of these salons is to give a quality haircut in the shortest possible time. It is a no-frills approach. Anyone who is in a hurry, can walk in a JH HairXpreso, get a quick haircut and continue on his way. This is the approach.
However, we noticed a strange thing happening. A section of the society which could not afford even paying 200 for a haircut started visiting our JH HairXpresosalons. Although my initial thought behind this model was not aimed at catering to this section of the Indian masses, still it happened, and I am happy that it happened.
Let me share a story with you
Sukhdeo, a roadside cobbler, used to work outside just one of our JH HairXpreso salons in Kolkata. All through the day, he was busy mending shoes and chappals sitting on the footpath. Every day he carried his bag full of spare soles, knife, hammer, tack puller, prying tool, thread and needles from his home to this place outside our salon. We hardly noticed him. One day, just before the Durga Puja, which is the biggest festival of this region, we saw Sukhdeo entering our store with three young girls aged between 7 and 14 years. One of our team members went up to him to find out what he wanted.
