Burn Relief
Apple cider vinegar isn't just effective for sunburns. It can be used to provide relief for other types of minor burns as well. To treat a burn with apple cider vinegar, place the ACV in a spray bottle with equal parts water and spray it liberally onto the burnt area. Alternatively, make a bath into which the burnt area of skin can be dipped.
Never attempt to use ACV to treat serious burns. In order to understand which burns to use apple cider vinegar on and which burns need immediate medical attention, let's look at the various degrees of burns:
1st degree. These burns only burn the outer layer of the skin. The skin will be red and may get inflamed, but doesn't blister. 1st degree burns aren't serious unless a large area of the body has been burned or the burnt area gets infected.
2nd degree. These burns make it down to the 2nd layer of skin and are more serious. Blistering occurs and is usually accompanied by severe pain and inflammation.
3rd degree. These burns make it all the way through the skin and can cause permanent damage to the tissue below the burnt area. This type of burn usually looks charred and black, but can also turn the burnt area white.
3rd degree burns need immediate medical condition. Get the victim away from danger and call 911 immediately. 2nd degree burns (and 1st degree burns, to a lesser extent) over areas of the body bigger than an inch or two also require medical attention.
Minor 1st degree burns and 2nd degree burns that are in a small, localized area that isn't on the head, hands, feet, face or groin are good candidates for ACV. Either spray the ACV solution onto the burn or dip the burnt area into a mixture of equal parts ACV and water. Use cool water to provide additional relief and cover the burn with a clean gauze bandage. Don't use ice on the burn and avoid breaking any blisters that develop whenever possible.
Keep a close eye on the burn and watch for signs of infection. If the burn shows signs of infection, seek immediate medical attention.
