To construct this next phase of the project, you’ll need the items from the original experiment plus the following:

• PIR sensors (2)

• Pan or turret

• Hobby servo

Figure 5-8 shows the new assembly of suggested parts. The critical components of this modification are the two PIR sensors. We use the PIR modules from Grove here because we’re using the Grove shield and because the digital output hold time can be adjusted with an onboard potentiometer. Otherwise, we’d have to adjust the hold time after triggering in software—a minor inconvenience. If you’re not constrained by a shield system, then consider the Zilog ePIR, which is both affordable and incredibly powerful. This miniature device has adjustable sensitivity, hold time, and ambient light threshold.
