Chapter Four
Of all the people to have seen her with Seth, it had to be Captain Ballard. The man was a complete ass, hated universally, and one of the worst pilots to ever be given wings. Shit! The last thing she needed was to be busted for sleeping with a damn pilot so close to her scheduled discharge. It could jeopardize the job she had lined up. No one wanted to hire a person booted out of the military.
She had no one to blame but herself no matter how much she would love to blame Seth. He gave her an out, and she didn’t take it. Honestly, if she had to go back in time and do all over again, even knowing what had just happened between Seth and Captain Ballard, she would do it all again.
How sick was that? How far gone was she?
“Hey, I didn’t think you would come back.”
Despite the fact Seth just had a serious run in with a jackass, he looked genuinely glad to see her. His face seemed to light up as she sauntered back around the corner. Her heart melted a little right then and there.
“Yeah, I guess I did.” No matter how much her heartbeat sped up, she still had to cast several glances around before entering the Equipment Locker.
Once inside, she took several steps away. She needed to keep her head on straight so they could talk this thing out. The only problem was finding where to start.
“I missed you like crazy,” Seth didn’t give her a minute to collect her thoughts.
She was in his arms, accepting his devastating kiss before she could get a word out. She let him. She didn’t want to talk right now anyway. She didn’t want to worry about what Captain Ballard or what would happen when he opened his mouth.
“I swear to you I won’t let anything hurt you.” Seth lifted his head and pinned her with those eyes.
Pippa swallowed the lump in her throat. She didn’t want to go there right now.
“Seth, I can take of myself.” She didn’t mean to snap, but she was starting to get antsy, like she needed to run.
“Who hurt you?”
She hated that question. Why did men always think just because a woman didn’t want to lean on a freaking man she’s been hurt by one? Why couldn’t she just be an independent woman? And in her case, that was exactly it.
“I have never been hurt by anyone for your information.” This time the animosity was meant. “I just happen to be able to take care of myself all on my lonesome without needing some man to do it for me!”
The statement was followed by a push to his chest, meant to free her from his grasp. Only she couldn’t budge him. Damnable man! She tried punching, but he simply wrestled her hands behind her back and held them there. With one hand no less. How humiliating.
“If I were a man I would so kick your ass,” she hissed, pouting like a freaking girl.
