e-Cigarette Regulation

Unlike tobacco cigarettes, there are many possibilities to regulate e-Cigarettes in an attempt to make them as safe as possible for the consumer. There are three main areas where regulation of the chemistry of the e-Cigarettes can have an impact: composition of the liquids, aerosol emissions, and addictive potential.

Composition of e-Cigarette Liquids

No chemical specifically developed de novo for use in e-Cigarette liquids has been reported. The main ingredients, besides nicotine, in most if not all liquids are propylene glycol, glycerol, and flavorings. It is reasonable for regulatory efforts to focus initially on the main ingredients.
