I met my parents outside the magically altered OTTER office building at five sharp. They made appreciative noises over the vehicle that Mikel had given me "for all my hard work" on his papers. Lying to them over the phone was bad. Doing so face-to-face was terrible. They climbed inside. Mom admired the plush interior. Dad mentioned how safe the four-wheel drive features were. I made the right sounds at the right times as I frantically tried to come up with a way to let them down gently.

"You know, I just remembered that tonight is a full moon," I tossed out casually as we cruised down Main Street. "Perhaps you'd rather come out next week? I can drive you back home so you can save on the bus fare."

"Do you think the wolves will be randy?" Mom asked.

Given Mikel's amorous mood the past two days, randy was not only possible, it was a given.

"More than likely," I replied as I glanced from the red light to my mom in the back seat. She appeared a bit concerned. I looked over at Dad beside me. "I have a wonderful idea. Mikel, I mean Master Lupei, and I were discussing throwing a garden party to welcome his cousin to the area. Why don't I have you driven out to the manor for that? This way you'll have more time to primp, Mom? Maybe you can stay overnight. That would knock the girls right off their paws!"

"Whatever your mother wants," Dad said.

I looked over my shoulder at her.

"Yes, yes, I think that sounds fine. Can we get a fancy invitation in the mail?"

"I'll make sure you get an engraved one in plenty of time to wave it under a few uppity snouts, Mom," I told her. She leaned up to peck my cheek. I made the right at the light instead of the left that would lead us to the mansion. Phew. That had been far too close. My mouth seemed to get me into the most undesirable situations at times.
