Chapter Fifteen

A car approached. The brothers stiffened. The eldest, Troy rubbed his neck. “Stay cool Angelo. Go to the passenger side and I’ll do the talking.”

“Alright.” Angelo replied and then sauntered from the bumper to the front passenger side of the SUV, cursing quietly at the arrival of their unexpected guests. They were likely undercover cops patrolling the area.

Troy addressed the Driver of the SUV in a hushed tone. “You stay in the car Armando. Mama will have our asses if anything happens to you.”

Armando nodded. “Who made you the leader, huh Troy?”

“Just once be quiet and do as I say.”

“Introduce me to your friend’s cousin…what’s her name…Miriam…whoa for her I might consider letting you do everything.”

“Shut up you little shit, they’re coming.” Troy warned.

The DT’s car slowed, they turned on their identifiers. The psychedelic colors might’ve sent a stoned person on a trip, they were so bright. The vehicle halted near Troy. “Everything okay Officers?”

“Yeah, thanks. Dude ran a red light near Rockaway,” Troy replied. “We decided to pull him over before he entered the airport and make our quota for the day.” Troy smirked.

“Sheesh, we’re ticket agents nowadays.” He peered at the SUV. “I’d give him a citation for those tints. You can’t see shit. Are there passengers in the car?”

“No. He says he’s picking up his family from the airport.”

“Well, those tints are too dark.”

Troy nodded. “Yeah, they are.”

“All right…stay safe.” Then their lights were turned off and the vehicle rolled ahead. A few feet away the brake lights flashed before the car slowly reversed.

“Shit Troy,” Armando cursed. “What the fuck?”

“Stay calm,” Troy advised his brothers.

Nico reached for his weapon. “Make any noise I’ll kill you,” he warned Samson.

“Hey, we decided to hang out until you write the citation. This area is deserted as fuck, you never know,” the Undercover on the passenger side informed Troy.

“Thanks, we appreciate that,” Troy stated without turning fully. He glanced to the rear seat, where Nico motioned him to play it cool. Troy addressed the Armando. “May I have your license and registration?”

“I apologize if I ran a red Officer.” Armando said respectfully. Growing up, he’d been knocked around a lot by his older brothers until he grew a set of balls and stood up to their menacing. At eleven, he earned his brothers’ respect —when he fought back. He reached in the glove compartment for the nonexistent documents. Aware of the precarious situation, he seized the car’s manual and ripped a sheet, folding it as quick as he could. They were in possession of loaded weapons, his brothers impersonated police officers and they abducted a person. They’d face a lot of trouble if busted. His hand shook when he passed the form to his brother. “Here you go.”

Nico inched toward the door. His brows furrowed. Damn, the undercover cop had discreetly inspected Troy’s uniform. Nico whispered to Armando, “They’re suspicious. Don’t make any sudden moves. Troy is in the line of fire.”

Troy stepped away from the SUV. The DT stuck his arm out of the window.
