The morning light had come before I even realized that the night had sped past. After my time with Missy, I could barely sleep. I felt giddy like a schoolboy, and it was ridiculous, but I didn't want it to end. It was hard being around the guys because I wanted to tell them exactly how I felt about it, but I couldn't. I couldn't even tell my best friend because I knew what he would think about Missy and me. I didn't blame him for being loyal to the Shifters. That was how I had been my whole life, but that didn't take away from the attachment and caring I felt for Missy.

The guys showed up at the house first thing in the morning, just like I thought. They brought breakfast with them and coffee, and we all sat around my dining room table, eating and drinking, and getting ready for the first day of our conservation work. That time it was going to be different, we were in charge of ourselves, and we didn't have human counterparts to hide from. It was nice because we would be able to freely talk to each other about things without worrying about humans overhearing us.

"Just remember guys, the town is fun, but it's only so big," Tristan said. "You might want to take your time easing through the women this time. I know it's new for you because there weren't anywhere we were before, but we don't want everybody hating us within the first couple of weeks."

The guys laughed and joked, but my mind was still on Missy. I was the least bit interested in any of the women in town or the Shifters around us. The only good thing was that with the Grizzlies being attached in some way to the Dark Shifters, my father wasn't going to push one of them as my mate. Wolf Shifters rarely ever allowed their Clan to meet outside of their species. It was complicated and confusing when it came to having children. The Wolf Clan was soaked in tradition and history.

So, it gave me an excuse as to why I hadn't found anybody yet.

We finished up breakfast and headed out to the coast, where the team was given a swath of land to do our testing on. Though our job was more of a cover-up, we were all trained in what we were supposed to do. We actually worked day and a day out, taking samples, recording findings, and keeping track of the changes that were happening. The changes in the Arctic had been fast and were starting to worry all of us. We knew the background in Girdwood, but we were basically starting from scratch there.

After we were set up, I took several of the sampling tubes out to the edge of the beach and began to collect some of the sand samples. My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I reached in, pulling it out, making sure it wasn't my father. When I saw Missy's name on the screen, I had to do everything in my power not to smile.
