The canal system gave rise to many new towns that were not along the Tuolumne River. Turlock is miles away from the river, but it was able to gain access to the water through the development of irrigation. This image shows an unidentified man inspecting grapes produced in his three-year-old vineyard. Stanislaus County is known for its agriculture, but it is hardly recognized for its diversity.
