II. The tempo of the operation and the time required for its conduct.
Considering the deep snow cover and the absence of roads conducive to movement of auto-transport and artillery, the tempo of the operation will accord with the success of the road building: on the first day of the operation — 10 kilometers [per day] and, subsequently, 15 kilometers per day.
The forces of the front will have to overcome a distance of 250 kilo meters during the first stage of the operation, and during the second stage of the operation — up to 250 kilometers.
Pauses necessary for putting the units into order, organizing command and control, bringing up artillery and rear services, replenishing reserves, possible local regroupings of combat formations, and committing the forces of the front’s second combat echelon into combat will be inescapable during the operation.
One should reckon on three days in each stage of the operation as the minimum amount of time for pauses.
Based on these calculations, 36 days will be required to overcome a distance of 500 kilometer and 6 days —on pauses, for a minimum total of 42 days for the operation.
