Chapter Twelve

The smell of Marco’s warm skin was the first thing I was aware of. I stretched and realized I was spooned up behind him with Dracula at my back. I wondered where Bade had gone, but fell asleep again before I could give the matter much thought.

When I finally woke for good I was lying completely on top of Bade and he was snoring. The soft growling sounds he made were hilarious to me. I laughed softly, and he opened his eyes.

“Was I snoring again?” he asked.

“Yes.” I rolled off of Bade and ran a hand over my chest where my injuries used to be. “Are they completely gone?” I asked. It was difficult to see completely by just looking down because they were so high up. Plus, I couldn’t see the ones on my back at all.

“Without a trace,” Bade said. “You healed well, especially considering those were silver bullets and you’ve become more of a wolf.”

“Marco told you about that, huh? I would have told you myself, but I passed out so quickly.”

He smiled and stretched out across the crimson sheets. “That’s all right, love. Marco told me a lot of things while you were sleeping.”

As I slid from the bed he said, “He gave me his permission.”

I paused. He didn’t have to say what Marco had given permission for.

“Shit,” I said. “Suddenly, I’m so nervous.”

He slid over to the side of the bed where I stood and reached for me. “Don’t be nervous. Nothing has changed between us. We knew this would happen, eventually. Haven’t we both been looking forward to this?”

“Yes.”

He hugged me tight as he said, “Then don’t worry. We don’t have to set a date or anything.” He laughed as he pulled back. “We’ll just let things happen when they happen. No pressure.”

“Thanks. I would kiss you, but I need to brush my teeth.”

Bade laughed again. “You have been asleep for three days.”

“Three days? Shit. Tonight is the full moon.”

“Marco wants us both at the gathering tonight. He said it had been a while since we were all in attendance and he thought it would be a good show of power.”

“All right.”

As I left the bathroom and approached the bed, Marco came back into the room.

“Don’t even think of lying down,” he said. “Kat has been blowing up my phone with dress pictures.” He laughed as he handed the phone to me. “Please, tell her something.”

“Sorry.” I took the phone and crawled up onto the bed beside Bade. “Are you cooking breakfast?”

“Do you think I’m your slave?” he drawled.

“No, I just thought I smelled pancakes.”

Marco winked. “You did. They’ll be ready in a few minutes. But it’ll take me another twenty to cook enough bacon to feed everybody.”

“Everybody?”

“The three of us and Luther. Dracula is back at his castle, not that he eats bacon.”

“That is hideous,” Bade said. “Oh, not the bacon. I was talking about this dress.”

I hadn’t noticed he’d started flipping through the pics Kat sent.

“You two have fun while I go slave over a hot stove,” Marco joked.
