Chapter Eleven
“Christ on a bike, would you look at this place?”
“You said it, Harpo.” Walking through the gate which separated the parking area from the TART Festival grounds, Kalil stared around in something close to awe. They’d come in through the entrance reserved for talent and festival workers, so this was their first sight of the grounds, and it was pretty impressive. He nodded toward a huge royal blue tent about ten yards from where they stood, the last in a double row of them. “Is that a disco?”
“The sign over the entrance does indeed read ‘disco’.” Adder’s arms slid around Kalil from behind, and warm lips sucked gently on his earlobe. “Come dancing with me tonight.”
“Okay.” Grinning, Kalil tilted his head up and sideways to kiss the angle of Adder’s jaw. “But if you make them play ‘Vogue’ and do that stupid-ass dance, I’m pretending I don’t know you.”
Adder pressed a tragic hand to his brow. “You cut me to the quick, darling.”
Reaching backward, Kalil wound an arm around Adder’s neck. “Yeah, poor you.”
Adder smiled. “Kiss it better?”
Kalil happily obliged. Adder hummed into Kalil’s mouth, one hand caressing his belly through his T-shirt.
Before things could get too heated, Vi grabbed them both and hugged them hard, then bounced off toward the tents in a flurry of purple gauze. “Oh my God, y’all, check it out. They have a comedy club and a yoga studio. Oh shit, and a massage tent!” Vi squealed and clapped her hands. “Jordan, this is fucking awesome.”
Jordan laughed as she joined the group. “Thank you. My partners and I are pretty proud of how it turned out.”
“I don’t blame you.” Adder drew away from Kalil, pulled Jordan into his arms and kissed her forehead. “This festival is going to be magnificent, love. I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say we are happy and proud to be playing here.”
Kalil murmured his agreement along with Harpo and Vi, but his heart was only half in it. For nearly nine months, he’d been looking forward to playing the TART Festival. And now here they were, at the festival grounds, just over forty-eight hours shy of the biggest show of their career so far. Why did Adder have to throw a wet blanket on Kalil’s excitement by flaunting his closeness to Jordan?
Kalil scowled, disgusted with himself. After all this time, he still hadn’t managed to shake off the urge to snarl every time Adder hugged Jordan, or she kissed his cheek. Hell, every time the two of them got involved in a marathon game of Monopoly, Kalil burned with jealousy. It was embarrassing. Especially since as far as he could tell, Adder hadn’t slept with anyone but him for the better part of a year.
God. Had it really been that long? Kalil shook his head. It amazed him that they’d stayed together this long. He wanted to believe that Adder restricting himself to one lover for ten whole months was the amazing part. But the truth was, Kalil had surprised himself as well.
