“Dinner?” Giulia’s mouth fell open.

“Yes. I’m inviting friends to help with a magic problem and I’d like you to be there. Careful,” I teased when she continued to gape at me. “You’re going to catch flies.”

She snapped her mouth closed, waving her front paws for a couple of seconds before she regained her composure and tossed her head back haughtily. “Well of course you want me there, bella. I shall try to fit you in.”

“Please do,” I said somberly. “Uh, what do you eat?” Even though Emmett only drank, that might have been a golem trait, because Pyotr sure did appreciate food.

Her eyes lit up. “Can I have fatty tuna or salmon?”

“Absolutely.”

She gave a delighted squeal and leapt back up to the top of the condo tower. Her infectious mood stayed with me all the way to Hotel Terminus, and I blamed that giddy vibe for the three yellow lights I may have run.

Laurent stood on the sidewalk bouncing impatiently in his bare feet, his hands jammed in his jeans’ pockets. His curls were rumpled as if he’d been running his fingers through them, and he had a dusting of dark stubble along his jaw.

With him was Ryann Esposito, the head of the Lonestars here in Vancouver. Her electric blue hair was buzzed close to her scalp, she sported tie-dyed leggings and a blue sweater with tiny hearts all over it, and was hands down one of the most magically powerful people I’d ever met. Beside her was a cool electric bicycle.

Boo ran around in the overlong grass behind them.

I wrenched my car into park, snatched my belongings off the passenger seat, and hurried over.

“Hi, Miri,” she trilled. “What trouble are you getting up to today?”

“Wow.” I shifted my overnight bag to my other hand. “One little interrogation and suddenly I’m a ne’er-do-well.”

She winked at me. “I’ve got to run, but as soon as I get any hits, I’ll let you know.”

I raised my eyebrows in question.

“Ryann is tracking down my former pack members that Léa can’t find,” Laurent said.

My heart swelled in admiration. The man when I’d first met him had been running into the arms of death to get away from his past. He’d overcome so much to achieve this self-awareness.

“We’re having a community outreach day in two Sundays from now at HQ,” Ryann said. “It’s a yearly thing. Fun for families. Free BBQ. Swing by.”

Provided I hadn’t been killed by the trio, it sounded lovely. “I will, though I should warn you that my family is pretty huge now.” With Eli dating Nav, Daya and Evani back in my life, and my fixer family, we were a big mishpocha.

“The more the merrier.”

I debated inviting her to my brainstorming session, but I hadn’t interacted with her outside of her Lonestar role, and I wasn’t sure that was the best event to change that. Maybe at the BBQ I could invite her out sometime as friends.

Ryann kicked up the stand and swung a leg over her bicycle. “Talk to you both soon.
