JUST ADD COURAGE
One of the prominent verbs used throughout the New Testament is the word encourage. Of all the words used to describe how believers should treat each other, encouragement stands out as the ultimate. Implicitly, someone who encourages is already deeply engaged in an exuberant pursuit of Christ. In addition, authentic encouragement is a selfless act. It bears overtones of humility and a willingness to invest in someone else at great personal expense.
Interestingly, encourage can be broken down into two parts: “en” (or “in”) and “courage.” The word means “to put courage in.” That’s a great word picture for what it means to encourage your C’s to take the next step. Through your friendship and support, you can actually give them the courage they need to move out of their comfort zones. It’s amazing how much more appealing the Christian life is when you have someone else to walk through it with you—someone to bear the burdens and share the celebrations.
Conversely, being an outspoken Christian is politically incorrect today. It’s easy to feel alone and isolated. So it’s no wonder C’s often have a long list of reasons for keeping a low profile and a very short list of reasons to make waves, especially at work. But when you take a look around, you may discover a surprising number of C’s who are receptive to some motivation and encouragement. When you invite them to pursue a deeper relationship with Christ, it might be just what they’ve been looking for in their quest for purpose in life. Spiritual growth is always exponential when it’s attached to a cause. Your unspoken challenge to honor Christ in the workplace could be the cause that ignites a new season of growth in their lives.
