CHAPTER TWELVE

I couldn’t sleep. I just sat on the bed, thinking. Tobias came up occasionally to talk to me and keep me company. He promised to bring me a console and make Killian pay for it. I wouldn’t be able to access the Internet with it, but I could at least play some games to pass the time.

My ankle had swelled, but I knew it wouldn’t last long as we wolves healed much faster than humans, especially under the light of our moon. But my moon was a rare, beautiful, eerie blood red. The red moon would heal me almost instantly.

He even brought over an alarm clock when I told him I was going crazy, not knowing the time. Truthfully, between you and me, I wanted to know what time it was so that I could try to reach the 10-foil bar in time.

It was almost eight o’clock now. Given my sense of poor direction and the need to hide, I should probably get there on time if I leave now.

I would be a liar if I said I wasn’t nervous. My heat dissipated when the pills kicked in. I just needed to hide.

Killian and Nico had been downstairs for a while. The laughter from below drifted up here from time to time as they conversed about this and that. And Tobias mentioned making dinner, so he was busy in the kitchen. If I didn’t slip out now, I wouldn’t get another chance.

I tiptoed to Killian’s room and found a long leather coat with a hood that would be perfect. Although his scent didn’t have the same effect because of the pills, the fabric still smelled nice. I took a deep breath before snapping out of it to head to the stairs.

The golden light of the flickering candles cast shadows on the dark walls, making this abandoned church gleam with holy light. Killian and Nico were reminiscing about past fights and inside jokes only the two understood. It was a world I had no place in.

The flickering candlelight cast a warm glow on Killian's face. The shadows dancing across his cheeks softened them and made him look more open and approachable. He was talking animatedly, gesturing wildly like he often did when he was excited. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but their conversation looked intense and fun. I could feel myself being pulled into this world of theirs, which I had no place in.

That’s why I now needed to see what my options were. That’s right. After my last talk with Killian, I remained neutral. If Killian wasn’t risking himself for me, I saw no need to do the same for him. But if I could get out of this place, that’s the better outcome for me.

There was no way I could leave out the front door without being spotted. The back door connected to the kitchen was my only way out.

I hid in the dark, hoping and praying that Tobias didn’t wanna pay me a visit. He headed out of the kitchen and down the hall with beers.
