Chapter Thirteen

I’m being lifted from the ground and carried to my room. I look around once again, seeing the beautiful colors, the clean, new furnishings. They made sure I had a beautiful room, wanting me to feel like I’m not here against my will. I’m allowed to walk around and do things.

My grandmother didn’t have that luxury. She was in a scary room, tied to a bed, beaten every day, slowly broken down until she had no more fight in her. I can still see her eyes looking at me. I know she wasn’t staring directly at me as that was just a vision, but it looked like she was trying to get away from what was happening to her, to distance her mind from her body, but she knew what was happening.

If I ever saw that demon, I would use all the magic inside me to hurt him. I will tie him to a bed and let him get punished like he did my grandmother for all of eternity. He made her believe that it could happen to me.

But it is happening to me. I’m in the same situation. She gave up her life for this not to happen, and yet, once the shield lifted, I was taken. If she didn’t shield me, would they have tried to bond with me sooner?

Why did the book make me see all that? My mother looked like she loved me dearly, but she was hardly at home when I was growing up. She always looked sad when she saw me. I guess, when she sees me, she sees her mother giving her life for me.

Does she resent me?

She knew that, on my birthday, I would get my magic, that I would be more prone to whatever is out there, but I didn’t even get a phone call. Does she not care? The guys take a seat in front of me, and I look at them. I’m trying not to see them the way I saw that demon, but it’s hard not to.

“Faith, what happened back there? You were floating in the air for a good twenty minutes before you fell to the floor, crying. Are you okay?” Maxen asks.

I sniff. “Where’s the book?” I want to see who wrote it. I saw no words, but maybe it only shows what you need to see by blood.

“The book is gone. We don’t even know how it ended up here. It was there one minute in the protected bubble you were in, and when it went, so did the book,” Alek tells me.

“It was showing me the different faes out there. I think I saw the first fae being raised. I saw children using their gifts. I went through all the eras, then I saw a demon beat my grandmother. He beat her until she couldn’t take anymore. A demon broke her,” I say bitterly.

The guys look at each other before looking back at me. “I’m so sorry you had to see that, Faith.” Maxen takes my hand.
