CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

BLAZE

Blaze was still pissed at Mackie, but excited to finally be heading home to see Aleah. He so looked forward to the day that he could leave all this bullshit behind and start over in a new city on the other side of the country. He’d decided that to make things a little easier for Mackie when they moved that he would even let her pick the city. They could even move to another country if she wanted to. Just as long as they got the hell out of Dallas.

Blaze dialed Aleah’s number. “Hey sweetheart. I’m finally on my way.”

“Yay,” Aleah cheered. “I’ve been waiting for you all day.”

“I love the sound of that,” Blaze said.

“I hope you have your energy up because I’m ready to rock your world Mr. Carter.”

Blaze smiled. “Have you been drinking?” It sounded like Aleah was slurring her words just a bit.

Aleah laughed. “Just a little bit. I got bored waiting for you.”

“Well at least you’re at the house and won’t need to drive anywhere,” Blaze teased.

“I see you’re not going to let me live that nightmare down.”

“Nope, never,” Blaze laughed. “Shit,” Blaze stated.

“What’s wrong?” Aleah asked.

“I’m being pulled over by the police.” At least that’s what he assumed. It was an unmarked car with one of those lights thrown on the top to the side. “Let me call you back.”

“Ok, be safe,” Aleah told him. She was worried not only because of his lifestyle, but also because of all the killing that was taking place around the country of young black men. Aleah had prayed for all the families of those young men who had been senselessly murdered.

Blaze pulled the car over. He knew this was some more bullshit. He never drove over the speed limit; as a matter a fact, he always drove five miles under the speed limit. His car was always in tip top shape; no broken tail lights, and registration and inspection stickers up-to-date. “Yea, straight bullshit,” Blaze said when he looked and saw who had pulled him over. It was the two agents that had interviewed him yesterday.

“Slowly out, your hands out of the window,” Agent Blanton stated with his gun drawn. Agent Zamora was on the other side of the car, looking bored shitless.

Blaze put his hands out the window as instructed.

Agent Blanton reached down an opened the door. “Step out of the car sir.”

Blaze continued to follow his instructions.

“Turn around,” Blanton said.

When Blaze turned around, he put the cuffs on him.

“What’s this all about,” Blaze asked.

“I’m asking the questions,” he barked at Blaze.

“Hey Blaze,” Zamora spoke.

Blaze threw his head up acknowledging her.

“We need to search your car. There was a bank robbery about a mile from here. Your car matches the description of the getaway vehicle,” Blanton stated.

Blaze sighed. He didn’t have time to play games with these two.

“Search the car Zamora.”

“Why do I have to search the car?” Zamora asked.

“Geez, well watch the perp, I’ll search the car. If he runs, shoot him,” Blanton laughed at his attempt to be funny.
