Chapter 31

Fifteen minutes went by like an hour, and Susan finally began to stir. Kate didn’t call the entire time. I wasn’t sure if that was good or bad. I went over to Susan and stood over her with my hands in my pockets. She blinked and covered her face.

“Are you okay?” I felt real stupid saying that because it was more than obvious she was not okay.

“You fuckin’ bastard,” she slowly said. “You...you hit me.”

“You were throwing rocks into the house, and you slapped me in my face.”

She sat up, and I kept an arm’s length distance.

“I’m calling the police,” she said.

“Susan, I am sorry, okay?”

My cell started up again. This time I answered it much quicker.

“Put her on the phone,” Kate demanded.

“I’m handling this,” I said to her.

“Put her fuckin’ ass on the phone, Rick!”

I shoved it at Susan. She glanced at it and asked, “Who is that?”

“Kate wants to speak to you.”

“I’m not talking to her.” Susan pushed my hand back.

I put the phone to my ear and said, “She doesn’t want to speak to you.”

“Put the phone on speaker.”

I really didn’t want to do it, but I did. “It’s on speaker,” I announced.

“Susan,” Kate calmly said, “I’m giving you this one chance to leave. If you don’t, I will ruin what’s left of your sorry ass life.”

“Hang up the phone, Rick,” Susan said as she stood up.

“He’s not going to do that,” Kate responded.

My wife said it right. I wasn’t.

Susan crossed her arms, leaned forward, and said, “Your threats are pointless, Kate. You can’t do anything to me. You might as well get over the fact that Rick loves me and move on with your sorry ass life.”

I tried to speak up, but I was cut off.

“He loves you, huh?” Kate said confidently. “Did you know that he has slept with other women while with you?”

Susan gave me a deadly look, and I took a step back for good measure.

What I wanted to know was how did my wife know about the other women? Who told her?

“Rick, why don’t you tell her who they were? Susan, I promise, you will be shocked.”

Susan waited for an answer, but I wasn’t giving up anything, not while I was breathing and walking.

“Fine, I’ll tell her,” Kate said. “There was Valerie, Janelle, and Kim. Isn’t Kim your best friend, Susan?”

I could tell she wanted to hit me, but I pointed at her, giving her an unspoken warning to back off.

She snatched the phone from me and yelled, “Go to hell, you bitch!”

“I believe you’ll be going first.” My wife was ice cold calm. “Now, before you start talking anymore craziness, let me inform you that I have another set of photographs, and I will send them to your husband if you don’t leave.”

“So what, bitch! Michael saw them already.”

“He hasn’t seen the ones of you and Anthony Kuang.”

“What did you say?” I was astonished. That couldn’t be true.

“That’s right, Rick. Your whore likes to share.”

I just could not believe it.
