Chapter Thirteen

Tucker’s heart leaped into his throat. There was only a brief moment of hesitation before he grasped the back of her neck and pulled her close. His lips grazed hers, and sparks of electricity showered around him.

With their kiss, the cold weather couldn’t touch him.

He’d come to this resort for a job, not expecting to do anything but fulfill a request from his boss. But he’d found so much more.

Tucker had found a reason to laugh again. He’d even found a reason to love again. And both reasons had to do with the woman he held in his arms.

He didn’t want to let her go.

How had she managed to stay under his radar? He’d known her for a few years, and he hadn’t noticed just how beautiful she was.

Well, he wasn’t going to squander this opportunity.

Blaire’s kisses moved from his lips along his jaw until she nibbled on his ear. The flicker of desire in his chest turned into a full-blown roaring fire. He couldn’t remember ever feeling this way with anyone, and this was only their first kiss.

Tucker was the first to pull away, needing to catch his breath. He pressed his forehead to hers, letting out a little laugh as he stared into her eyes. “Whoa.”

“Yeah,” she rasped. Her smile never left her face as they stood there, letting reality return to them. Blaire pulled back just enough so he could see her full face. She tilted her head and laughed. “You don’t think this is weird, do you?”

“Weird?” He made a face. “Is that how you feel?”

She lifted a shoulder. “I don’t know. It’s like what everyone has been saying about this place. Maybe it is magical.”

He snorted. “Oh, come on. You can’t believe everything you hear. This place is great, but it’s just a resort.”

“Don’t ‘come on’ me.” Blaire snickered. “This resort might just be the one place on the planet that can help people find love when they’re not expecting it.” She shrugged, pulling even farther from his reach. “I certainly wasn’t expecting to find anything while I was here—certainly not with the likes of you.”

Tucker gasped, placing his hand over his heart. “Ouch. What exactly are you inferring?”

She shrugged again. “I dunno.”

It wasn’t lost on him that she’d started inching away from him, little by little. He took a step toward her. “Where do you think you’re going? You can’t just kiss me like that then run and hide.”

“I can’t?” She said it innocently enough, but there was a layer of teasing to her tone. “Because it looks like I am.” With that final statement, she spun around and started running. Her feet landed in the snowdrifts, crunching with every step she took.

And she wanted him to chase her.

Well, game on.

A grin spread across his face. “If I catch you, then you have to give me something.”

“Oh yeah?” she called. “What’s that?”

“I’ve got some ideas.”

Her peals of laughter filled the air, reminding him of what it used to feel like to be in love with his ex.
