They were going to have to talk about it. The more time that went by, the more daunting that knowledge became. They were going to have to sit down and discuss what they just did. What they did four times.

Christian was laying still next to her, and had she not been almost positive that he was sleeping, the silence would have been awkward. Madison, on the other hand, was trying not to fidget too much. She didn’t want to wake him, although she so desperately wanted to see what Christian Taylor looked when he was asleep, when his guard was down.

After a while, she couldn’t resist the urge any longer. Madison gently came up to her elbows, turning softly so as not to move the bed too much, though most of her movements were being absorbed by the cushiony mattress. He was on his back, head turned slightly away from her. He breathed deeply and evenly, a hand thrown over his head, looking completely at peace.

It struck her suddenly that she’d never seen him so relaxed before. Now that she gazed at him, she realized he was always a bit tense, though he seemed to be at ease on the surface. He looked… even more beautiful than he did before. Radiant somehow, as if created his own light. As peaceful as he was, he looked every bit the angel she could imagine he was, under that hard exterior.

“Is there something you’d like to say?”

Madison jolted. Christian slowly opened his eyes, turned his head and looked at her.

Oh, God. She really liked him. If her rapidly beating heart and her now creeping blush was any indication, she was falling for him faster than she ever thought possible. Not even with Quentin did she feel so… out of control.

“Madison?”

She blinked, aware now that she’d been staring at him without saying anything. With her mouth open, too. God, she was so embarrassing.

Her face grew unbearably hot and she was suddenly glad that there wasn’t much light in the room, so he might not have seen it. “Oh, uh, it was nothing.”

“You were staring at me.”

“Because… because I thought I heard something.”

Christian only stared at her, deadpan. No doubt wondering what to say to such a lame excuse. “So, you were planning to wake me to see what it was?”

Madison had to resist the urge to laugh nervously. “How did you even know I was staring at you? I didn’t make any noise.”

“I could feel your eyes.” He said it so simply, Madison couldn’t think of a proper way to argue. Then, he moved, rolling over on his side until he was facing her directly. Madison was crossed between pulling away and snuggling closer.

This was wrong. This shouldn’t have even happened. But nothing had ever felt so right in her life.

“Your mind is busy,” he said, staring her down.

“What do you mean?”

“You’re thinking about something. Something’s bothering you. What is it?”

Madison frowned. It was one thing for him to notice, but an entirely different thing for him to ask her about it.
