June 28 | HEBREWS 4:14−16

As David laid out his plans for building the temple of the Lord, he said, “I had it in my heart to build a house as a place of rest for the ark of the covenant . . . for the footstool of our God.”1 A footstool! David and the people of Israel were to worship in a place the king referred to as God’s footstool. Frankly, it would be an incredible privilege to come anywhere near the footstool of the living God, the beautiful Creator of all that is. But think of the far greater access we enjoy because of our relationship with Jesus Christ. The Bible says we will one day join the angels worshiping God before His throne in heaven. What’s more, Jesus says, “To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne.”2 What stunning grace and favor!

Even now, Father, You kindly invite me to come before Your throne of grace, bringing all my troubles, worries, sorrows, and burdens! Because of the cross of my Lord Jesus, I have been given access into the Most Holy Place. And I don’t come as a fearful, trembling slave; I come as Your very own child. Who can imagine such privilege?
