It’s all part of the fun of Christmas on the farm.

Finally, everyone says goodbye and heads for

home. Lights from cars and trucks dot the horizon

as they move in a line along the gravel road.

Quiet settles over the little red barn,

and stars twinkle above the snowy fields.

I try not to yawn. I don’t ever want this day to end.

“I can’t wait for next year,” I say. “I want a simple

Christmas again. A simple Christmas on the farm.”

Use stiff cardboard to make two templates of a star,

one a quarter-inch smaller than the other.
