Chapter 11

It was Thanksgiving day and everyone was at the Stone house for dinner. Ryan Sr. and Jr. were there as well as the other Stone brothers Randolph, Jaylin, and Landon. Rita, Mr. Stone’s secretary and Mrs. Stone’s best friend had come and brought her whole family. This was guaranteed to be an eventful evening. The wine had started to flow around the table and that always caused loose tongues among the Stone clan. Everyone was passing food around the table and seemed to be enjoying themselves. Ryan Sr. stood with something to say as he usually did at family functions. “I see a couple of new faces here at the table this year. Fellas you better have your minds right when it comes to my nieces or deal with the consequences.” He said eyeing both Broadus and Decker. “On that note Broadus and I have an announcement.” Diamond said standing as well, beckoning for her uncle to sit. “We’re getting married.” She said flashing everyone her very large diamond ring. Congratulations came from everyone at the table. “Now that’s what I’m talking about.” Ryan Sr. said slapping his brother Garrett on the back. “I guess that just leaves you two with that monkey on your back.” Diamond said looking across the table at Ruby and Decker. Ruby looked at Decker knowing the secret they shared. How many heart attacks would she cause if she admitted right here at the dinner table that she and Decker were already married. She wouldn’t test it today, maybe at Christmas though if they kept talking about her not being married. “You have a lot of nerve talking Ryan Sr. when your sons didn’t even bring any prospects today.” Rita interjected. “Now you just hold on a minute woman. My boys have a lot of wild oats to sow and until they are done sowing you let them be woman.” Ryan Sr. snapped back. “You here that girls, finish sowing before you tie yourselves down with a man.” Rita said to Onyx and Ruby. “Hold on a minute there these girls need to be married and settled otherwise the job continues to fall back on all of us men.” Ryan Sr. said. “Now you hold on right there. Last time I checked, we have all saved each other’s asses on more than one occasion equally.” Onyx said. “You watch your language young lady. Your uncle is acting enough of a fool for everyone here.” Mrs. Stone said. “Well mom, I was just saying. We can take care of ourselves just fine.” Onyx added. “I think we need to put this wine away.” Mr. Stone said going around the table picking up empty wine bottles, shaking them as he went around. “This was the problem. Everyone of them have been polished off already.” Mr. Stone said. “You young men, please excuse our family. We really do know how to act, its just not showing very much right now.” Mrs. Stone said. “Trust me Mrs. Stone we are not ones to judge family issues, we have our own.
