“Have you kidnapped our grandma?” said Jess.

To be fair, that outfit was enough to make anyone forget what they were supposed to say – or rather NOT say!

“What?” Mr Burton frowned.

“I mean, have you seen Grandma?” My sister’s cheeks flushed. “I need to give her a message. Mum said she saw her in your garden earlier. If she’s busy, maybe you could pass it on for me?”

Clever, I thought to myself. If we could get him to admit Grandma was there…

I risked a glance along the side of the house and saw Robin’s foot disappearing through a window.

“What nonsense! Why would your grandma be in my garden?” Our neighbour’s eyes narrowed. “What are you up to?”

“Nothing,” said Jess quickly. “We just thought we saw her and—” A loud crash from the garage cut her off.

“I knew it!” Mr Burton pushed past us, but before he reached the door it swung open and Granny Anderson hobbled out. The old lady was leaning heavily on her stick and looking around with a confused expression.

“What are you doing in my garage?” demanded Mr Burton. “I should have you arrested for trespassing!”

Granny Anderson peered up at him. “Oh, hello, dear! You’ll have to excuse a daft wee auld woman, but I seem to have got mysel’ lost again! I was lookin’ for Jake and… Och, there they are!” She waved and shuffled towards us.

“This is our great-grandma,” said Jess. “She’s very old and she gets confused sometimes. This is Mr Burton, Granny.”

Our neighbour moved towards the garage where Robin and Digby were searching for Grandma, but Granny Anderson grabbed his hand. “You’re the robot man!” she said, pulling him close.
